  1. The list

Short answer

The most useful questions are about ownership, production assumptions, escalators, workmanship warranty, roof penetration responsibility, and what happens if you sell the home. If any answer is vague, that's your answer.

The list

  1. Am I buying this system, financing it, or entering an agreement to buy the power it produces?
  2. What is the total amount I'll pay over the full term?
  3. Does my payment increase over time, and by how much?
  4. What annual utility rate increase does this proposal assume?
  5. How was shading measured on my roof specifically?
  6. What happens if the system produces less than the estimate?
  7. Who performs the installation — your crew or a subcontractor?
  8. What does the workmanship warranty cover, and for how long?
  9. Who is responsible if a roof penetration leaks in year six?
  10. What happens to this agreement if I sell the house?
  11. What is not included that I should budget for — electrical upgrades, trenching, roof work?
  12. Can I have the full agreement to read without a decision today?
Any company that needs your signature tonight is telling you something about the offer.
